ABOUT

Yoga for Everyone Melanie’s Journey

Melanie’s journey into yoga began in 2004, during a time of exploration and discovery. Taking a year out to travel the world with just a backpack, she found herself on a path that would not only open her eyes to new cultures and perspectives but also awaken something deeply transformative within. That journey became the seed of a lifelong passion: the practice and teaching of yoga.
When she returned home, Melanie felt inspired to share what she had experienced and decided to retrain as a yoga teacher. She completed her first 500-hour Teacher Training Diploma with the British Wheel of Yoga, a foundation that gave her both structure and depth. Since then, she has immersed herself in ongoing study with internationally respected yoga teachers. Along the way, she has been particularly influenced by the work of Simon Low and Donna Farhi, both of whom emphasize mindful, safe, and accessible approaches to yoga.
But Melanie’s path didn’t stop there. Always curious, she continued to explore yoga not only as movement but as a healing art and a way of connecting body, mind, and spirit. She has trained with a number of Somatic Yoga Practitioners, learning how gentle, mindful movement can help people reconnect with themselves and release long-held patterns of tension. One of her greatest inspirations has been James Knight, the founder of Gentle Somatic Yoga, whose work blends awareness, softness, and therapeutic benefits. Melanie is proud to be a certified Gentle Somatic Yoga Practitioner, sharing practices that help people feel more freedom, ease, and joy in their bodies.
Her journey continued deepening her personal and spiritual growth by training in Dru Meditation, which allows her to bring an even greater sense of stillness, compassion, and presence into her teaching.
At the heart of Melanie’s teaching is a simple but powerful belief: yoga is for everyone.
That means yoga is not about how flexible you are, how long you’ve been practicing, or what your body looks like. It’s not about “doing poses perfectly” or comparing yourself to others. Instead, Melanie sees yoga as an invitation to meet yourself exactly where you are—with kindness, patience, and curiosity. Whether you are a complete beginner, a seasoned practitioner, living with an injury, navigating chronic pain, managing stress, or simply looking for a way to feel more at home in your body, Melanie welcomes you.
Her teaching style is gentle, inclusive, and responsive. She creates a supportive space where people of all abilities, ages, and backgrounds can explore yoga in a way that feels safe and empowering. For some, that might mean finding strength and balance through mindful movement. For others, it might mean discovering the power of deep rest, breathwork, or meditation. For many, it simply means carving out time to reconnect with themselves in a caring environment.
Melanie is passionate about making yoga truly accessible. She adapts postures, offers variations, and integrates the principles of somatic awareness so that everyone can find a version of yoga that feels nourishing to them. She believes yoga should never be about striving or struggling, but about listening, softening, and finding joy in what your body can do today.
Her classes are often described as calming, grounding, and uplifting. She weaves together physical movement, mindful breathing, and moments of stillness, always with an emphasis on self-care and compassion. She encourages her students to let go of judgment, to practice with curiosity rather than expectation, and to discover that even the simplest movements can create profound shifts in energy and wellbeing.
For Melanie, yoga is more than exercise. It is a way of life—a practice that can bring healing, Freedom, serenity, and resilience into the challenges of everyday living. Over the years, she has seen how yoga can help people reduce stress, ease anxiety, release physical discomfort, and develop greater self-acceptance. She has also seen how yoga can connect people to a deeper sense of joy, purpose, and belonging.
Her philosophy is rooted in inclusivity and kindness. She wants everyone who comes to her classes to feel welcomed, supported, and seen—regardless of their experience or ability. This is why she is committed to offering Yoga for Everyone. Whether you’re joining her in a group class, attending one of her retreats or workshops, Melanie invites you to step into a space where you can slow down, reconnect, and nurture your whole self.
Beyond the physical and emotional benefits, Melanie also sees yoga as a spiritual practice—not in a religious sense, but as a way of cultivating presence, compassion, and awareness in everyday life. Through her training in Dru Meditation and her studies with teachers across different traditions, including the Masters at Kaivalyadhama Yoga Cantre in Mumbai, India she brings a sense of depth and authenticity to her teaching, while always keeping it approachable and down-to-earth.
What makes Melanie unique is her ability to blend structure with softness, tradition with innovation. She respects the roots of yoga while also embracing modern understandings of movement, and somatic awareness. This means her teaching continues to evolve, guided by her curiosity and commitment to lifelong learning.
For Melanie, yoga is not something that belongs to the few—it belongs to everyone. It is for the person who has never rolled out a mat before, just as much as it is for the person who has practiced for decades. It is for those who want to build strength and flexibility, as well as those who simply want to feel calmer and more at ease. It is for people living with illness or injury, people navigating the stresses of modern life, and people searching for a sense of connection and meaning.
Above all, Melanie teaches yoga as a practice of kindness—towards ourselves, towards others, and towards the world we share.
When you join her for a class, you’ll find a space that is warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental. You’ll be encouraged to move in ways that feel good for your body, to rest when you need to, and to explore yoga as a tool for self-discovery rather than self-criticism. You’ll also discover that yoga is not about “doing it right,” but about finding what feels right for you.
Through her teaching, Melanie hopes to empower people to carry the gifts of yoga off the mat and into daily life—whether that’s feeling calmer in stressful moments, standing a little taller, breathing a little deeper, or simply noticing the small joys that make life meaningful.
Melanie’s journey—from a backpacking traveller in 2004 to a deeply experienced teacher today—is a testament to how yoga can shape and transform a life. But just as importantly, it is a reminder that yoga does not belong to any one person or path. It belongs to all of us.
